The Michigan Lighthouse Festival travels the great state of Michigan, featuring one light at a time each year. Michigan has more lighthouses than any other state (129), and Michiganders tend to follow the Michigan Lighthouse Festival joined by lighthouse enthusiasts adventuresome visitors from across the country.
In 2019, the Michigan Lighthouse Festival beam is focused on the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse, managed by the Port Huron Museum. Fort Gratiot Lighthouse is the first built lighthouse in Michigan, 1825, and the second oldest on the Great Lakes. It marks the entrance to the St. Clair River from Lake Huron and built to guide the increasing traffic flow of vessels through the water way in the early 1800's. Whether your passion is history, maritime folklore, architecture, breathtaking vistas, photography, or the life-saving stories of the men and women charged with the maintenance of the lights, the Michigan Lighthouse Festival encourages you to join them in the activities celebrating Michigan Lighthouses and honoring their contributions to our story, August 2 - 4, 2019 in the Port Huron region.
Whether you are driving to Port Huron or letting a motor coach professional handle the roadways, you will want to keep your calendar open for the entire weekend beginning, Friday, August 2, 2019. Join lighthouse enthusiasts at the festival's Kick-Off Dinner at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, Port Huron, Michigan. Vernors, Bluewater Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Bay Mills Resort and Casinos are sponsoring the 2019 Michigan Lighthouse Festival. Marge Ellenberger, Michigan Lighthouse Festival Director, encourages festival attendees to make plans early to explore each of the lighthouses standing watch along the shoreline of the blue water region: Fort Gratiot Lighthouse, Harbor Beach Lighthouse, Huron Lightship, Port Austin Reef Light, Point Aux Barques Lighthouse, and Port Sanilac Lighthouse. Showcasing all six lighthouses, special programs and offerings throughout the weekend will be highlighted on this website and shared on our Facebook page. Information regarding ticket purchases and motor coach tours will be posted on the site as well.
